Shrub species were planted that would thrive in the limited soil depth available and would quickly provide a robust and varied ground cover. Trees on the podium deck were carefully positioned over weight-bearing columns below. Bulb planting was used to give seasonal colour. The site’s ecological value was assessed against the requirements of the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method and was awarded a ‘Very Good’ rating.
