Recommendations for best practice on ecological, historic, and visual issues were made and allowed the project to be tested for compliance with planning policies prior to submission for planning approval. The visual impact of the gauge house containing the flow measurement equipment on the historic landscape of the park was one of the major issues highlighted by the environmental impact appraisal. A bespoke design for the gauge house was therefore created, based on the detailing of Alscot House and its entrance lodges.
