To support the redevelopment and improvement of the Forest Court shopping centre at the heart of Dorridge, Arthur Amos Associates were appointed to develop a new Public Open Space and provide Landscape and Arboricultural consultancy.
The design process and evolution involved consultation with various local groups, statutory consultees and stakeholders, it also included a Professional Design Review process in collaboration with the local planning authority.
Working closely with Highways Engineers and the Architect, creation of the space has been facilitated by removing two lanes of existing carriage way and providing a common surface treatment across both vehicle and pedestrian areas. Strong surface patterns and directional llighting design is reinforced by a framework of specimen tree planting linking the new development with adjacent retail provision and creating a hierarchy of sub-spaces. The redefined road arrangement is designed to reduce vehicle speeds, enhance pedestrian and cyclist experience as well as provide a safe and attractive area for all residents.
