Portswood

Portswood

A bus depot site at the heart of Portswood is to be cleared and developed to provide a mixed development comprising housing, a doctor’s surgery, play facilities and a supermarket.
The site provided challenges in the form of level changes, TPO trees, an infestation of Japanese Knotweed and the requirement to provide a landscape scheme consistent with the requirements of the Civil Aviation Association (CAA) due to the sites close proximity to Southampton airport.
Arthur Amos Associates worked alongside architects and engineers to achieve planning consent for the scheme. In addition to retaining most of the valuable trees the scheme provides strong pedestrian routes and an enhanced public realm achieved through a comprehensive planting scheme, sympathetic surface treatments, street furniture and a LEAP (Local Equipped Area for Play). The landscape design included residential community amenity spaces, private gardens and roof top gardens in addition to the play areas, streetscape and woodland areas.
