On the site of a public car park and dated, under used sports centre, Worcester St Johns is a Sainsburys flagship community store, part of a mixed use development bringing vitality to the historic St Johns area of Worcester.
Arthur Amos Associates produced an extensive combined landscape masterplan for a new store, sports centre, youth centre, improvements to school grounds and upgraded pedestrian links.
A complex site with many uses required careful integration with the medieval street pattern of the adjacent Conservation Area, combining old established walkways to create a permeable pedestrian friendly environment.
We worked closely with local residents to reduce the visual impact of the store, taking on board their concerns, retaining existing trees where possible and amending our landscape scheme to provide a mutually acceptable solution.
